Jamie And His Misdirected Battle

I’ve been watching this show. I almost can’t decide whether I like it or not. It is focused on introducing healthy food (organic chickens and cow milk aside) into the school lunch program and that is something of which I am a huge proponent. But the problem is it’s still just reality television. The dramatic music plays when protagonist Jamie has a “showdown” with the antagonistic Alice, he pulls stunts like cooking up a week’s worth of unhealthy food and then throwing it away, and he even cries in the first episode (but hey, maybe that was sincere). I’m not saying he can’t make a difference on a small scale. Maybe he reaches a few parents in Huntington or some television viewers. But this show is much too shallow to make any kind of lasting impact on what school children are served in this country. The problem is the school lunch program. And the problem with the school lunch program is the government subsidies of meat and dairy which dump huge amounts of animal products (cheesy, creamy goodness) into food for those kids.

But I’m still watchin’ it.

It’s harder without the pills, but I’m still here and able to fight off the depression. I am staying busier than I ever have in my life. (At least since junior high.) I have meetings and gym activities and school. I still managed to get an A+ on my first exam!

And I’m writing a story for a submission.

Feeling much better after my initial return funk. I finished my first class which was at 8 am. I have to get into the habit of going to bed early. Somehow. My next class is Romantic Poetry at 1:00 with Casper (who tends to be a bit of a…problem professor) and then…Fairy Tales at 3:00 with Dr. Marsh! I’m excited. I’m taking two courses with Dr. Marsh, my favorite professor. I sort of, uh, would like to be her one day.

I have to go talk to the people at the front desk to see if I can get a new mattress. Mine is sunken down on one side. It’s horrible. As I try to fall asleep I have to constantly keep scootching back to keep from rolling off. I probably got about six hours last night.

Oh! I went to my first basketball game. It was fun.
